The NetBackup Virtual Appliance Cloudcatalyst is a customized media server configuration that specifically supports NetBackup Cloudcatalyst deduplication in a virtual environment. It provides a lower-cost alternative to the existing NetBackup 5340 Cloudcatalyst Appiance. Cloudcatalyst uses MSDP deduplication technology to upload deduplicated data to the cloud. The data is uploaded by the Cloudcatalyst-enabled MSDP cloud storage server, which first stores data in a local cache before uploading it to cloud storage. A single NetBackup Virtual Appliance Cloudcatalyst Appliance supports a cloud storage bucket of up to 1 Petabyte in size.
